SHEAR AND PRESS BREAK OPERATOR

Location:  Selma, CA

Hours: 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM (overtime as needed) Current Schedule:  6:00 AM - 3:30 PM
Days:  Monday–Friday (Saturdays as needed)

Job Summary:

Responsible for the setup and operation of machines to cut, punch, and form metal while supporting the direct labor operations of the Fabrication Department.

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Sets up and operates fabrication machines such as Ironworker, Shear, and Break to cut, punch, bend, and form materials.
  • Trims, files, grinds, deburrs, buffs, and finishes surfaces using hand tools and/or portable power tools.
  • Lays out and makes dimensions, references lines on material, uses scribes, dividers, squares, and rules.
  • Determines sequence and methods of fabricating parts using blueprints, sketches, or product specifications.
  • Selects material according to product specifications.
  • Maintains safe operations by adhering to company safety procedures and regulations.
  • Performs any and all other job-related tasks as assigned by the direct supervisor.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 1-year experience preferred.
  • Willingness to work overtime and weekends as needed.
  • Ability to work seasonal shift hours and different shifts as required.
  • Strong communication skills; able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to perform accurate measurements and basic arithmetic.
  • Strong commitment to quality and safety.
  • Ability to follow instructions, read work orders, and maintain production records.
  • Ability to work in an environment with heat, noise, and dust.
  • Reliable attendance and punctuality.
  • Must be 18 years or older and able to understand and adhere to all job requirements, safety guidelines, and company policies.

 

Physical Requirements:

This position requires standing for extended periods and performing physical labor, including lifting, twisting, and bending.

  • Standing:  Frequent to Continuous.
  • Sitting:  Occasional to Frequent.
  • Walking: Occasional to Frequent.
  • Bending/Stooping/Squatting/Kneeling:  Occasional to Frequent.
  • Gripping/Manipulation:  Frequent to continuous
  • Lifting/Carrying:  Up to 50 lbs. (occasional, floor to waist, chest, and shoulder)
  • Carrying: Up to 50 lbs. occasionally

Working Conditions:

Work is performed in a noisy industrial environment with frequent exposure to fumes and airborne particles. The role involves working near moving mechanical parts and operating heavy equipment and tools. Shear and Press Operator and Fabrication duties are physically demanding and include repetitive tasks performed under varying weather conditions.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and Safety

Employees must wear approved PPE at all times, including:

  • Safety glasses
  • Respirator
  • Hearing protection
  • Steel-toed or composite-toed shoes

Strict adherence to all safety policies and procedures is required.
